Brussels, 09/07/2003 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday the European Commission authorised the extension until 31 October 2002 of the aid schemes put in place for the air industry by nine countries - - following the terrorist attacks in the USA on 11 September 2001: Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. This decision by the Commission ties in fully with its communications on, "The repercussions of the terrorist attacks in the United States on the air transport industry". The USA ahs also granted exception aid to the air industry, providing aid for insurance in an effort to counterbalance the consequences of the attacks. The Commission ahs already adopted similar decision in the same context for United Kingdom, Luxembourg, Portugal, Belgium, Sweden, Austria, Germany, Denmark, France, Spain, Ireland, Italy, Finland and the Netherlands.
