10/02/2003 (Agence Europe) - Gianfranco Dell'Alba, MEP on the Lista Bonino and General Secretary of the Committee on "No Peace without Justice", welcomed in a press release the election of 18 judges to the International Criminal Court to be officially created in The Hague on 11 March. Eleven men and seven women will make up the new Court, including one Irish national, one British, one German, one French, one Italian and one Finnish national. Mr Dell'Alba and the Chairman of the "No Peace without Justice" Committee, Sergio Stanzani, stress that the elected personae will have "the great responsibility to guarantee justice is done for the victims of horrible crimes" and, above all, that "no head of State or general will be able to enjoy impunity for massacre". Ricard Dicker, Director of the Human Rights Watch programme for international justice is pleased to note for his part that many seasoned criminal judges and lawyers have been elected (during two-third majority voting), including a large number of women. During its many decades of existence, the International Court of Justice has had only one women judge, Mr Dicker comments.
