21/06/2001 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday, without debate, the Council took several decisions concerning the conclusion of an Euro-Mediterranean association agreement with Egypt. It adopted the text of this agreement as well as a draft decision concerning the signature. It also decided to forward it for the European Parliament's assent as soon as it is signed. We recall that the agreement mainly provides for: - an appropriate framework for political dialogue; - progressive liberalisation of trade in goods, services and capital; - and the development of balanced economic and social relations between the parties through dialogue and cooperation. It must be signed on the fringe of the General Affairs Council session during the afternoon of Monday 25 June, in Luxembourg.
