THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) eu/fry

21/06/2001 (Agence Europe) - The European Union and the United States must condition their aid to Serbia of cooperation by the authorities in Belgrade with the Tribunal of The Hague and their attitude in Kosovo and vis-à-vis Bosnia, states the International Crisis Group (ICG) ten days from the meeting in Brussels of the International Donor Conference for Serbia. The NGO, chaired by former Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari, calls on the EU and the United States to insist on the debt of the Yugoslav Republic and its economic needs to step up the pressure so that Serbia further cooperates with international institutions. "If Serbia does not act in he next two weeks in at least one of these fields, the Donors Conference should be postponed indefinitely", the IGC writes in a press release.
