07/06/2001 (Agence Europe) - Olivier Dupuis MEP, member on the Bonino list in the European Parliament, was arrested and then expelled by the Vietnamese authorities when demonstrating in favour of religious freedom in Vietnam, the Trans-National Radical Party of which Dupuis is the Secretary General announced (see yesterday's EUROPE, p.5). Mr. Dupuis and the militant Radical Martin Schulthes, who were demonstrating for the release of the Buddhist dissidents Thich Yhen Quang and Thich Quang Do, were "deported to Bangkok" and suffered "several hours of administrative detention", says a press release from the Radical Party. Pasqualina Napoletano MEP of Democratici di sinistra, regarded it "disgraceful" that Dupuis and Schulthes should have been arrested simply for having demonstrated for religious freedom.
