ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) automobile equipment

The German-American manufacturer DAIMLERCHRYSLER is to sell 60% of its micro-electronic subsidiary TEMIC (870 million euro turnover in 1999 with a workforce of 5,300, 2,700 of whom employed in Germany) to the German automobile equipment manufacturer CONTINENTAL (10.11 bn turnover in 2000) for between 374 and 380 million euro. DAIMLERCHRYSLER will, initially, retain the remaining 40% stake but intends selling this share by 2005. The total price paid for 100% of the capital of TEMIC will vary between 623 million and 633 million euro, depending on the date that CONTINENTAL takes over the remaining 40%. In addition, CONTINENTAL continues actively to seek a taker for a large stake in its subsidiary CONTITECH (plastics and rubber) which has a workforce of close to 15,000 for a provisional turnover for 2000 of 1.4 bn euro.
