Transport, Euro and IGC on agenda of plenary session on 4 and 5 April - Speech by Commissioner Solbes

Brussels, 03/04/2001 (Agence Europe) - The Committee of the Regions will receive, for its thirty eighth plenary session, the European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs, Perdo Solbes, in order to discuss the impact of the transition to the Euro in the cities and regions. During this session, which will take place on 4 and 5 April in Brussels, the Committee of the Regions will decide on:

A draft Regulation and a draft Directive relating to maritime safety and the prevention of pollution by ships, Walsh (UK/ELDR) report;

The 1999 annual report on transeuropean networks, Lebrun (B/EPP) report;

A draft Regulation on the action by Member States in terms of the requirements of public service and the allocation of public service contracts in the field of passenger transport by railway, road and waterway, Suykerbuyk (Vice-President of the Flemish Parliament, B/EPP) report;

Commission Communication on its support to nuclear safety in the Newly Independent States and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, Pumberger (A/EPP) report;

Draft Council decision instituting a Community mechanism to coordinate civil protection interventions in case of an emergency, Koukoulopoulos (GR/ESP) report;

Commission Communication on "Innovation in a knowledge-based economy", Keymer (UK/EPP) report;

Results of the 2000 intergovernmental conference and the debate on the future of the European Union, Dammeyer (First Vice-President of the Committee of the Regions, D/EPP) report;

Adopting of draft forecast of receipts and spending by CdR for 2002;

EU economy: 2000 review, Perkkio (FI/ELDR) report.
