Brussels, 03/04/2001 (Agence Europe) - On 2 April, the European Commission authorised the creation of e-Boks, a joint venture between Dmdata and Kommunedata. E-Boks will provide an electronic mailbox service. The Commission investigation reveals that this joint venture will operate on a new market where the parent companies do not currently operate.
Dmdata is a joint venture held and controlled under equal conditions by Maersk Data, which is part of the A.P. Moeller group, and by Danske Bank. Kommunedata is the result of the merger of the information technology centres held by the local authorities in Denmark. The Commission considered that the positions of Dmdata and Kommunedata on the upstream and downstream markets of the joint venture were not significant enough to raise competition problems and were therefore not likely to entail the creation or the strengthening of a dominant position.
