25/09/2000 (Agence Europe) - Regarding the information published in EUROPE of 21 September, p.12, concerning, among other things, the cancellation of the third Business Forum to be held in Buenos Aires, the Argentinean Embassy specified that: "the EU/Mercosur Business Forum is a joint initiative of the private sector of both regions" and "the three co-chairmen of the Forum (representing the EU, Brazil and Argentina) have decided to postpone the conference until May 2001. This decision whose origin is due to the private sector, was taken while bearing in mind the aims of the Conference and of the official timetable set for negotiations between the EU and Mercosur. Consequently, it is not the Argentine Republic that 'unilaterally cancelled' this meeting but an adjournment that the organisers felt necessary so that the Buenos Aires Conference of the Forum of EU-Mercosur enterprises would be more successful".
