31/08/2000 (Agence Europe) - German Social Democrat Christa Randzio-Plath, Chair of the European Parliament's Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs and a member of the EP Delegation for relations with ASEAN, affirmed during a conference organised in Singapore with a view to the preparation of the ASEM summit in Seoul, that the setting up of a social forum to play a role similar to that of the Asia/Europe Business Forum would increase the quality of relations between the EU and the Asian countries. According to Ms Randzio-Plath, who took the floor during a conference organised by the Asia-Europe Foundation, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and the Singapore Institute of International Affairs, Europe and Asia should together attack not only problems such as the trade in human beings but also organised crime and the quality of food products.
