06/01/2016 (Agence Europe) - Strong Commission response to Sandro Gozi on a resignation from Juncker's cabinet. Italy's secretary of state for European affairs Sandro Gozi has said it is unacceptable for a British national, Michael Shotter, to take over the responsibilities of Italian national Carlo Zadra in the cabinet of European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker. According to Italian media, Zadra, a legal adviser, resigned from the cabinet on 2 January after Shotter was entrusted with responsibility for coordinating legal issues. In the opinion of Commission spokesperson Margaritis Schinas, using the media to play politics “is not a good solution”, as he told the Commission's daily press conference on Wednesday 6 January. He also stated that the Commission worked in the interest of all Europeans. “We leave our passports at the entrance to the Berlaymont building [Commission offices]”, he added, before concluding that the European civil service operates according to experience, qualifications and merit.
