06/01/2016 (Agence Europe) - S&D delegation in Cuba to strengthen links between European Parliament and Cuban institutions. An S&D delegation from the European Parliament, led by the group's president Gianni Pittella, and including the leader of the Parliament's sub-committee on human rights Elena Valenciano and the S&D Group's spokesperson Norbert Neuser, arrived in Cuba on Tuesday 5 January and will stay until 8 January. The group wants to contribute to strengthening relations between the European Parliament and Cuban institutions and civil society, a press release states. “We are going to Havana primarily to underline our commitment to finalising the political dialogue and a cooperation agreement in the first six months of this year”, Pittella said before setting off. While in Havana, the delegation will meet Cuba's minister for foreign affairs Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla and minister for trade Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz, as well as Cardinal Jaime Ortega. (CG)
