06/01/2016 (Agence Europe) - Estonia and Finland studying plan for under-sea tunnel for 2030. On Tuesday 5 January, Estonia and Finland announce that they intended to study a plan to build an 80 km tunnel under the sea between the two countries. This would be operational by 2030 and would cost an estimated €9 billion to €13 billion. The project would extend the Rail Baltica to Finland - a railway line which will start in Warsaw and go to Tallinn via Riga and Vilnius. The final section of it is expected to be operational by 2025. Estonia and Finland could request European funding under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). The next deadline for calls for projects is 16 February 2016. (PH)
