16/12/2015 (Agence Europe) - Funding revealed for milk and fruit in schools. At the special committee on agriculture (SCA) on Wednesday 16 December, the compromise on the programme for distributing milk and fruit and vegetables in schools was supported by a large majority of delegations (see EUROPE 11453), despite criticism about the transfer of certain competences from Article 43(3) of the Treaty (Council) to Article 43(2) (co-decision) conceded by the Presidency (aid budget, criteria, transfers). Hungary is opposed to the text, as is the Netherlands. The UK is abstaining. The funding has now been revealed - France takes the lion's share (€22.5 million for milk, €12.6 m for fruit and vegetables), ahead of Germany (€19.7 m and €9.4 m), the UK (€19.4 million and €9.8 million) and Italy (€16.7 m and €8 m). The text still has to be formally adopted by the Parliament and Council. (LC)
