16/12/2015 (Agence Europe) - Euro-Mediterranean expert group on climate change. The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) “welcomes the adoption of the Paris agreement” on climate change (COP 21). This is a “major breakthrough”, the UfM secretary general said in a press release on Wednesday. The UfM's satisfaction is reportedly all the more appropriate as this commitment is in the UN framework with the UfM's own commitment in its “regional (Mediterranean) dimension”. It therefore promises “operational support” to all the members of the UfM in implementing their climate policies and achieving common objectives. The UfM Climate Change Expert Group has been formed and will serve as “a relevant platform to discuss the clarity, transparency and understanding of the Euro-Mediterranean states' contributions”. This platform will be the link with the UN structures (UNFCC). (FB)
