25/11/2015 (Agence Europe) - European local and regional authorities adopt statement in face of radicalisation. At the international conference for preventing radicalisation, which was organised by the European Forum for Urban Safety and the Council of Europe's Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, around a hundred mayors and elected representatives from 22 European countries adopted a statement on Wednesday 18 November to strengthen solidarity between cities and their cooperation on security. Their statement came in the wake of the terrorist attacks in Paris on 13 November and the signatories underline the role played by local authorities. They therefore ask to be more involved in national and European decision-making, and propose setting up a European digital platform for exchanging initiatives, experiences and resources on the fight against radicalisation. In addition, they want to establish an alliance of towns in 2016 for the “prevention of radicalisation leading to violent extremism”. (PH)
