PSA will publish fuel consumption in real conditions next year

Brussels, 25/11/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 23 November, the French group, Peugeot Citroën (PSA), announced that in cooperation with Transport & Environment (T&E) and the sustainable transport in Europe organisation, it would be publishing the fuel consumption of its vehicles measured in real conditions by spring 2016, as well as their gas pollutant emissions, particularly nitrogen oxide (NOx), from the following spring.

The T&E body indicated that the procedure still needs to be defined more precisely but the main guidelines are already known: the tests will involve the manufacturer's passenger vehicles and will take place on the open roads, on the outskirts of Paris, as well as in urban, extra urban areas and motorways.

Completion of the PSA trials will be overseen and validated by the T&E organisation, which indicated that it would not receive anything in exchange. The body added that it would be exclusively concentrating on CO2 data and that this would not involve “green washing” or any promotion as regards the manufacturer. It also provided assurances that in the event that the results obtained were not representative and if no agreement could be reached on what measures should be taken, it would terminate its cooperation with the manufacturer.

The organisation is also calling on all other manufacturers to do likewise. This appeal has acquired a certain resonance, following the results published by Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH), a German environmental NGO, which demonstrated that Renault Espace Diesel produced emissions that were 25 times above the authorised ceilings.
