EU to invest €150 million in nine projects

Brussels, 25/11/2015 (Agence Europe) - As part of its Pan Africa Action Plan established in 2014, the EU is to invest €150 million in nine projects to support governance and human rights, as well as innovation and learning, throughout the African continent.

This was announced by the European Commission on Wednesday 25 November, which underlined - on International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women - that €5 million of this sum will be given to support the international efforts to put an end to female genital mutilation and €10 million will be given to support the fight against discrimination and human rights violations.

The nine projects cover a much broader range of areas than this - like supporting the African Union institutions, supporting civil society organisation, helping fight against organised crime, promoting sustainable management of natural resources, developing technology and skills in the mining sector, and improving flight safety.
