22/10/2015 (Agence Europe) - Strong reservations at Parliament on Commission's proposal. In a letter to European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on Thursday 22 October (see EUROPE 11415), European Parliament President Martin Schulz expressed the Parliament's strong reservation about the Commission's recent proposals to strengthen economic and monetary union (EMU) - “notably with regard to the limited role of the European Parliament in the process”. “All legal instruments of the presented package fall outside the ordinary legislative procedure and therefore exclude the involvement of the European Parliament”, Schulz said at the end of a discussion in the conference of presidents of the Parliament's political groups. Schulz is one of the authors of the Five Presidents' Report on strengthening EMU (see EUROPE 11340). (MB)
