03/06/2015 (Agence Europe) - EU should accompany FIFA change. Commenting on the resignation of Swiss national Sepp Blatter from his post as president of the international federation of football association (FIFA), European Commissioner for Sport Tibor Navracsics said he thought that Blatter's resignation and the review of malpractice within FIFA “represent one step in a long process that now has to follow to restore trust and establish a solid system of good governance at FIFA”. In Navracsic's view, “after so many missed occasions and the complete loss of confidence in FIFA”, the European Union should support the efforts for fundamental change in the model of football governance and ensure that real solutions are implemented by actively participating in the process. “We owe it to the millions of fans in Europe and beyond, who love sport - and who deserve so much better”, Navracsics stated.
