07/10/2014 (Agence Europe) - EU condemns an attack in Chechnya. On Monday 6 October, the European Union condemned a bomb attack in Grozny (Russia). “There can be no justification for such an attack against innocent lives”, said the spokesperson for High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton. The EU offered its condolences to the families of the victims, and to the government and Russian people, and wished a quick recovery to all those injured. A 19-year-old suicide bomber blew himself up on 4 October before a concert to celebrate City Day. The attack claimed five lives and left twelve people wounded. “The EU recalls the importance of fighting against terrorism in the common interest, as expressed in the joint statement agreed at the EU-Russia summit on January 28, 2014”, Ashton's spokesperson stated (see EUROPE 11007).
