14/06/2013 (Agence Europe) - Eurozone inflation 1.4% in May. Annual inflation in the eurozone stood at 1.4% in May, up 0.2% on April, but down 1% on May 2012, according to figures released on Friday 14 June by the EU's statistical office, Eurostat. In the EU27, annual inflation stood at 1.6% in May, up 0.2% on April. The lowest inflation in May was seen in Greece (-0.3%), Latvia (-0.2%) and Cyprus (0.2%), and the highest in Romania (4.4%), Estonia (3.6%) and the Netherlands (3.1%). Compared with April 2013, annual inflation increased in May in sixteen member states, remained unchanged in six and fell in four. The increases in inflation were the result particularly of the rise in fruit and vegetable costs and electricity prices. (MB/transl.fl)
