14/06/2013 (Agence Europe) - European Parliament resolution deemed “unacceptable”. On 13 June, Turkey's Foreign Affairs Minister Ahmet Davutoglu deemed the European Parliament's attitude “unacceptable”. He criticised the adoption of a resolution the same day (see EUROPE 10866), which attacked the excessive use of force by the Turkish police against the demonstrators, and which criticised the attitude of Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. “Turkey is a first class democracy and doesn't need to be taught lessons by anyone”, Davutoglu stated. He said that when the resolution is presented to the government it “will be rejected immediately”. Shortly earlier, Erdogan - who was directly incriminated in the resolution - reacted strongly to the MEPs' words. “Who do you think you are? How do you dare to adopt a decision like this? I will not acknowledge it”, he said. Earlier, he had called on the Parliament “to look at Greece before putting Turkey down for using force against the demonstrators” (our translation throughout).
