Brussels, 14/06/2013 (Agence Europe) - The Secretariat General of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) are to hold, in Barcelona on Monday 17 June, the first conference launching Logismed training activities (LOGISMED-TA). It will be attended by the European commissioner for neighbourhood policy, Stefan Füle. The project, which is promoted by the EIB, aims to improve training and build up up the level of qualification of logistic platform managers and operators. Adopted in 2011 by 43 member countries, it will receive support from the European Commission and the Deauville Partnership. It will extend over a six-year period (2013-2018) and the first measures will be taken in Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt.
According to the UfM, there is a need to focus on competitiveness in transport logistics in the Mediterranean. This has been revealed by the findings of several studies that indicate the weakness of regional integration and market fragmentation, which are hampered by high costs and a lack of human resources, especially qualified personnel.
