More sugar on the market

Brussels, 14/06/2013 (Agence Europe) - On 13 June 2013, the EU's Management Committee gave the go-ahead for importing 150,883 tonnes of raw sugar and 44,255 tonnes of white sugar, at minimum import duties of €141.10 and €161.00 euros a tonne respectively (the same rates as for the tenders in February and May 2013). It was also agreed to allow an out-of-quota tranche of 150,000 tonnes to be put on the market at a levy of €148 a tonne.

For the current marketing year, this takes the total additional import offers accepted to 636,092 tonnes (of which 90,000 tonnes of white sugar for Italy were returned), so the total net imports will be 546,092 tonnes, and the total quantity of out-of-quota sugar released on the market 600,000 tonnes.
