23/10/2012 (Agence Europe) - Schulz condemns attack on young Pakistani girl. Opening the plenary session on 22 October, President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz strongly condemned the attack on a young Pakistani girl, Malala Yousafzai, on 9 October. This “courageous” young girl, this 14 year old “fighter” who is active for the education of girls, was attacked in a bus by the Taliban who shot her in the head. Schulz asked the Pakistani authorities to bring the authors of this “cowardly” act to justice. He said that Malala is the symbol of more than 250 million young girls in the world who live in poverty and whose fundamental rights are not respected, including the right to education. He hoped that Malala's fight would inspire others. (CG/transl.fl)
