23/10/2012 (Agence Europe) - EU calls for dialogue on hunger strike of former prisoners. On Monday 22 October, Peter Stano, the spokesperson for European Commissioner for Enlargement Stefan Füle, said that the Commission is encouraging serene and constructive dialogue in the framework of the democratic institutions and the closely related legislation between the Albanian authorities and civil society organisations with regard to the former political prisoners on hunger strike, who are asking for compensation for the time spent in prison during the Communist period. Stano said that the situation of the hunger strikers must be an “immediate priority” for all the parties concerned. Highlighting the concern and regret of the EU regarding the situation of these hunger strikers, he recalled that the European Commission is following this file. (CG/transl.fl)
