EXTERNAL ACTION / (ae) iran

27/08/2012 (Agence Europe) - Tehran calls non-aligned to oppose Western sanctions. The Iranian minister of foreign affairs, Ali Akbar Salehi, urged delegates of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on Sunday 26 August to oppose the sanctions imposed by the West against Iran because of its nuclear activities. “The non-aligned [movement] must seriously oppose … unilateral economic sanctions which have been enacted by certain countries against non-aligned countries”, the minister said at the opening session of the summit of non-aligned countries. The countries are also due to discuss, on the sidelines of the summit, “a global package” to resolve the Syrian crisis. One hundred and twenty developing countries are participating in this summit, as is Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon. (CG/transl.fl)
