18/05/2011 (Agence Europe) - Slovenian MEP encourages his country to get involved in manufacturing electric vehicles. Speaking in a debate on green transport n Ljubljana last week, MEP Borut Pahor (S&D, Slovenia) called for the electric vehicle market in Europe to be developed, the government information services report. Slovenia, he argued, is well placed to play a role in this market, with 15-20 Slovenian companies already involved in the construction of electric vehicles. Slovenia currently possesses the capacity to manufacture 50% of an electric vehicle, Pahor estimates, encouraging the country to become more heavily involved in sustainable development. Slovenian Transport Minister Bojan Zlender, however, was somewhat less enthusiastic. Speaking in the same debate, he laid great emphasis on the implementation of all of the routes of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T) for which Slovenia will need some €15 billion.
