18/05/2011 (Agence Europe) - 70 million euros in Palestinian tax revenue held by Israel made available. The Israeli government has cancelled the freezing of 70 million euros of Palestinian funds in its possession, the Israeli media has reported. This money corresponds to tax and customs revenue collected by Israel when products going in or out of the Palestinian territory cross its borders and which it has to refund to the Palestinian Authority. "This money, which is normally paid before the fourth of each month, constitutes two thirds of the budgetary revenue of the Palestinian organisation", the Israeli press states, adding: "the transfers were blocked on 1 May further to the agreement concluded on 27 April between Fatah and Hamas. The Israeli Finance Minister, Youval Steinitz, wanted to make it impossible for any part of this money to be used by Hamas for 'terrorist activities'". (F.B./transl.fl)
