03/12/2010 (Agence Europe) - Agreement on Single European Sky performance targets. The committee of experts from EU member states on the European Single Sky programme (to modernise air traffic control in Europe) reached an agreement on Friday 3 December on the performance targets of the European Single Sky. The targets approved by the Committee cover four areas (security, cost/efficiency, emissions, delays) and will allow savings of over one billion euro to be made over the period 2912-2014, reducing CO2 emissions by 500 million tonnes per year. These operational targets have still to be approved by the European Parliament and are established at European level. In terms of delays, by 2014, the overall objective provides for a 0.5 minute delay per flight and -0.75% route extension. With the cost-efficiency target, the determined unit rate for 2014 is set at €53.92, as proposed by the Commission (compared to €59.30 today). It will then be up to member states to develop, either individually or at regional level, their national performance plans corresponding to these targets. (A.By./transl.jl)
