Brussels, 03/12/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 1 December, the European Commission proposed a reduction of between 1% and 3% in 2011 guide prices for most species of white fish. For a number of pelagic species, such as mackerel, Spanish mackerel and whole albacore it proposed price increases ranging from 1% to 2%, and reductions of between 0.5% and 2% for others, such as herring, sardine, anchovy and gutted albacore.
In the frozen products sector, the proposal is for increases between 1% and 2% for hake (whole and filleted), swordfish and Illex, and reductions of between 1% and 3% for sea bream, squid and prawns (and other species in the Panaeidae family).
The proposal recommends a 2% reduction in the Community producer price for tuna products. Guide prices serve as a reference for market measures such as carry-over of products (mainly) and withdrawal of fisheries products. The total cost of these measures for 2011 is estimated at €13.55 million. (L.C./transl.rt)
