03/12/2010 (Agence Europe) - A new website for identifying most environmentally-friendly cars. On Saturday 4 December, the European Commission is launching a new website allowing the vehicles that are the least polluting and that consume the least energy to be selected (http://www.cleanvehicle.eu ). The site contains information on EU legislation and national legislations on clean and energy-efficient vehicles. It also contains a European database containing technical data for the vehicles. The website launch corresponds to the date when the directive on the promotion of green vehicles in public transport is to take effect, providing for all purchases of public transport vehicles to take into account not only price but also energy consumption and polluting emissions throughout the life of the vehicle (EUROPE 9569). The website was created to facilitate this choice, the Commission states, adding that data there will be available to all. (A.By./transl.jl)
