16/06/2010 (Agence Europe) - In May 2010, annual inflation in the eurozone stood at 1.6%, up from 1.5% in April. In May 2009, eurozone inflation was 0%. Monthly inflation in the eurozone stood at 0.1% in May 2010. In the EU as a whole, annual inflation was 2.0% in May 2010, unchanged on April 2010. In May 2009, annual EU27 inflation was 0.8% and monthly inflation stood at 0.2% in May 2010. According to figures released by Eurostat on Wednesday 16 June, the lowest annual inflation was in Latvia (deflation of -2.4%), Ireland (deflation of -1.9%) and the Netherlands (0.4%), and the highest in Greece (5.3%), Hungary (4.9%) and Romania (4.4%). Compared with April 2010, annual inflation fell in ten member states, remained unchanged in five and increased in twelve. Average inflation over the twelve months to May 2010 was the lowest in Ireland (deflation of 2.5%). Latvia (deflation of -1.2%) and Portugal (deflation of -0.5%), and highest in Hungary (5.1%), Romania (4.7%) and Poland (3.6%). (A.B./transl.fl)
