Brussels, 16/06/2010 (Agence Europe) - The prime minister of Moldova, Vladimir Filat, accompanied by several ministers, including the deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs and European integration, Valeriu Lazar, paid an official visit to the European Investment Bank (EIB) headquarters on Monday 14 June 2010, where they discussed with the EIB president, Philippe Maystadt, and the EIB vice-president, Eva Srejber, responsible inter alia for EIB lending to the EU's Eastern neighbours. The talks focused on projects currently funded by the EIB in Moldova and the prospects of further EIB financial support. So far, the EIB has granted two loans in Moldova: €30 million for the upgrading of roads connecting Moldova with the EU and €20 million for the modernisation of Chisinau Airport. Potential future projects include operations in the transport, energy and environment sectors (particularly water) and support for small business. (O.L./transl.fl)
