16/06/2010 (Agence Europe) - In an open letter to EU heads of state meeting for the European summit in Brussels on Thursday, the Conference of Peripheral and Maritime Regions (CPMR) urges them to introduce a regional dimension into the EU2020 strategy, to specify how the partnership approach would work in practice and to indicate to what extent the heads of state wish to focus on “territorial cohesion” as set out in the Lisbon Treaty. The CPMR urges the Commission to introduce a “territorial pact” to ensure that all economic powers in the EU's regions are able to take ownership of the EU 2020 strategy. A CPMR delegation, headed by the CPMR president, Claudio Martini, and its secretary general, Eleni Marianou, will meet with the president of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, on 8 July.
