01/03/2010 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 1 March, the Competitiveness Council adopted without debate a resolution on boosting intellectual property rights within the single market (see EUROPE 10081), adding to the 2008 resolution setting out an EU action plan to combat counterfeiting and piracy (see EUROPE 9742). The new resolution defines the work of the new EU monitoring centre to be set up under the aegis of the European Commission, calls for the swapping of information between the public and the private sectors at EU and member state level, and notes the need to inform the general public about the negative impact of buying counterfeit or pirated goods.
