28/09/2009 (Agence Europe) - In a press release published on Monday 28 September, the European Commission states that it has received 525 opinions from the national parliaments in the space of three years. This number shows the enormous success of the political dialogue announced by President Barroso in May 2006 and launched by the Commission in early September of the same year, the Commission states. The press release goes on to add: "The dialogue with the national parliaments is a political commitment which the Commission will uphold, also in parallel with a new subsidiarity mechanism in the Lisbon Treaty which, if ratified, will allow national parliaments to express formal reserves as regards the respect of the subsidiarity principle in draft legislative acts".
