28/09/2009 (Agence Europe) - The trade union declaration (see EUROPE 9978), handed over by international trade union leaders to Barack Obama and the other heads of state and government (Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Japan, Spain and the United Kingdom) and to leaders of the EU, the ILO, the IMF, the OECD and the WTO in Pittsburgh prior to the G20 summit has “helped push employment to the top of the agenda for action by the world's largest economies”, a joint union press release says. Secretary General of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) Guy Ryder said that “the real measure of success for this summit is how governments are going to maintain and create decent jobs as their urgent and top priority”. John Evans, Secretary General of the Trade Union Advisory Committee (TUAC) to the OECD added: “We need more action to support global demand and jobs - not less. (G20 governments) must also ensure more balanced growth for the future with more just income distribution”. (G.B./transl.rt)
