15/09/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 15 September, the External Relations Council adopted a joint action renewing the mandate of the ER mission to provide advice and assistance for security sector reform in the Democratic Republic of Congo (EUSEC RD Congo). The current mandate, set out in 2007, ends on 30 September. The objective of EUSEC DR Congo is to help Congolese authorities in setting up a defence apparatus capable of guaranteeing the security of the Congolese people, while respecting democratic standards, human rights, the rule of law and principles of good governance and transparency. The joint action will cover a period of one year (from 1 October 2009 to 30 September 2010). The financial reference amount to cover expenditure relating to the mission will be €10.9 million.
