15/09/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 14 September in Brussels, María Teresa Fernández de la Vega, the Spanish vice prime minister, addressed the European commissioner for competition and defended her project for funding public broadcasting. The new TVE (Spanish national channel) funding will get rid of advertising on public channels and “not only complies” with European legislation but is also based on “stricter” principles for maintaining healthy competition with private operators, explained the vice prime minister in statements published in the Spanish press. The Commission welcomed her visit but Commissioner Neelie Kroes also stressed that the Commission wanted more information on the proposed funding structures before it could make any more detailed analysis.
