28/08/2009 (Agence Europe) - Kees Klopenhouwer, who heads EU civilian operations and the Civilian Planning and Conduct Capability (CPCC), has made a three-day visit (Wednesday 26-Friday 28 August) to Bosnia-Herzegovina to assess the work of the EU Police Mission (EUPM) and discuss cooperation between the mission and security sector players after the recent two-year extension (until 2011) of the mission's mandate. During his visit, Klompenhouwer met the minister of the interior of the Republika Srpska, Stanislav Cado, and the deputy minister for security in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Mijo Kresic. On Friday 28 August, he met up with the commander of the EU military operation in that country (EUFOR Althea), General Stefano Castagnotto. Launched in 2003, the EUPM was the first mission organised within the European security policy framework, with a view to contributing to police reform in Bosnia-Herzegovina. (A.By./transl.jl)
