Brussels, 28/08/2009 (Agence Europe) - EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) Javier Solana will be making a visit to the Middle East from Saturday 30 August to Wednesday 2 September. The visit will focus on resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Solana will first of all be in Damascus where talks are scheduled with President Bashar Al-Assad and Foreign Minister Walid Al-Mouallem. On Monday 31 August, he will be in Israel (where he will meet Shimon Peres, Benjamin Netanyahu, Avigdor Lieberman, Ehud Barak and Tzupi Livni) and in the Palestinian territories (for talks with Salam Fayad, Alain Faugeras (EUBAM Rafah) and Paul Kernaghan (EUPOL COPPS). In Beirut, on Tuesday 1 September, Solana will meet President Michel Sleimane, the outgoing prime minister and his successor designate, the president of the Lebanese parliament and the foreign minister. Mr Solana's trip will end in Cairo on Wednesday after meetings with the secretary general of the Arab League, Amr Moussa, and the Egyptian president, Hosni Moubarak. (O.J./transl.jl)
