EU bans trade in whale derivative products despite Canada's threat to bring matter before WTO

Brussels, 27/07/2009 (Agence Europe) - Meeting in Brussels on Monday 27 July, the Foreign Affairs Ministers approved without debate the ban, which was approved in May this year by the European Parliament (EUROPE 9895), on the trade in whale derivative products. Only Austria, Denmark and Romania abstained from the vote. The embargo will enter into force for the next hunting season, in 2010. The closure of the Community market comes on top of embargoes already set in place by the United States...
