17/07/2009 (Agence Europe) - One month after signing a contract with the sixteen private companies that comprise the SESAR joint enterprise, it announced on Monday 13 July 2009 that it would be launching thirty new programmes in the next thirty days. The new programmes include intranet in aviation (the SWIM Air-Ground Capability Project), developing satellite systems for precision landing (GBAS Cat II/II) and standard wifi connections for surface data connections (Airport Surface Datalink). Some 94 further projects remain to be identified and launched before the end of the year in areas such as procedures, aviation intranet and tolls to ensure continued descent of aircraft. The SESAR programme was designed to develop technology to facilitate and update air traffic control in Europe and comprises 16 chapters. A total of 295 projects are due to be launched in 2009-2016.
