Sub-standard landfills not complying with EU rules should be thing of the past from 16 July, Commission says

Brussels, 16/07/2009 (Agence Europe) - The deadline fixed for EU member states to bring their sub-standard landfills into line with EU Directive 1999/31/EC was 16 July 2009. Member states are required to manage and control their landfill sites according to very strict rules and to reduce the quantity of biodegradable municipal waste deposited in landfills by half (compared to 1995 levels) as of this date.
