25/06/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 23 June, the European Commission and Romania signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) setting the terms for the release of the EU financial assistance to Romania as part of the support for balance of payments mechanism. The policy conditions include measures in fiscal consolidation, fiscal governance, structural reforms and financial sector regulation and supervision. The medium term loan from the Commission is for a total of €5 billion (to be paid in five instalments) and is part of a multilateral financial support package (see EUROPE 9869).
