Brussels, 24/06/2009 (Agence Europe) - Following the breakdown (temporary?) in the talks between Slovenia and Croatia on finding a solution to their border dispute (EUROPE 9926), Croatia's accession negotiations with the EU remain on hold. On Wednesday 24 June, ambassadors from member states (COREPER) pointed out that due to the Slovenian veto, they did not have the required unanimity at the Council to move forward in accession talks with Zagreb. Consequently, the ministerial negotiations meeting, initially planned for Friday 26 June, has been postponed until further notice.
Turkey. In the meantime, accession negotiations with Ankara are making progress, albeit very slowly. A ministerial negotiations meeting will take place next Tuesday (30 June) and a new chapter, taxation, is planned to be opened. In total, Turkey will then have covered 11 chapters and closed one.
