New tool for European information in several languages

Brussels, 26/05/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 26 May, the European Commission launched an interactive internet site containing press articles on a whole series of areas of European Union activity (economy, society, environment, science, culture, etc). By using the “PRESSEUROP.EU” information site, web users will have access to articles from about 250 European and international press sources (daily newspapers, magazines and other online sites) in 10 languages (German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian and Czech) gradually increasing to 23 EU languages. Press reviews, newsletters and archives will also be available. The choice of articles (for sources that have copyright agreements) will be made by a permanent and freelance team of journalists, based mainly in Paris. They will be translated by professional translators. The current consortium, headed by Courrier international, Internazionale, Internacional and Forum, aims to enlarge to gradually include new members. See: http://www.presseurop.eu . (A.B./transl.jl)
