Brussels, 26/05/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 29 May in Marseilles, the Conference of the Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR) is organising a seminar on “Regions and Development: the role of regions in a new global framework”. This seminar is organised as part of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) and other national and European associations of regional and local authorities has established a “European Platform of Regional/Local Authorities for Development”. This is co-financed by the European Commission.
Enrico Mayrhofer, the CPMR's press director explained that this seminar aims to continue the reflection process began in the Commission's communication on “local authorities: development actors” and underline the role of the local and regional authorities on development themes and the Millennium Goals, as well as promote the insertion of regions and cities in the new more participatory development support mechanisms in an effort to help improve aid efficiency.
Regional and local actors taking part in the debate include: Angelo Baglio (DG Aidco/Commission), Olivier Luyckx (DG DEV/Commission), Cécile Molinier (director/UNDP), Michel Delebarre (First vice president of the Committee of the Regions) and Jeremy Smith (CEMR) Secretary General).
